4 Ways to Save on Your Dream Wedding

Are you thinking about tying the knot with your significant other? Frandsen Bank & Trust vows to help you save money by providing reasonable suggestions to help cut costs.

1.) Don’t go for broke: under no circumstances should you feel pressured to spend three times your annual salary on an engagement ring. That is an outdated standard set by a company called De Beers, which sold diamonds. Their marketing campaign was quite successful, but today’s standards are a tad different.
  • Creating a budget beforehand can help you determine what you can afford.
  • Consider paying in cash, as you may get a discount that way.
  • Lastly, do NOT finance your wedding ring. Starting a new chapter of your life with a large amount of debt is not recommended, especially for a piece of jewelry.
2.) All about the venue: One of the significant contributors to an expensive wedding is the venue. May, June, September, and October are the most popular wedding months. Why compete with other couples for venue dates? All it does is drive costs beyond affordability. Perhaps pick the least “popular” month for getting married … That dream venue may have lower costs for less busy months.
  • Pick a date: the day you want to get married can also contribute to the wedding cost. For most, Saturday is a traditional wedding date, but there is no need to follow suit.
  • Consider thinking outside the box and choosing a nontraditional venue for your wedding with your partner. Perhaps one of you knows someone with a lovely, well-kept barn or a spacious, picturesque backyard. Remember, it's not about the location of your wedding but rather the memories you make while pledging a lifetime commitment.
3.) The key to happiness…FOOD: Catering food for guests is a complicated and expensive challenge. Family or friends can be picky eaters, decide not to stay for a meal, or even expect more food than you or the caterer ordered.
  • Do you really need a fancy five-course meal? Why not pick one main dish that is easily cooked in large amounts? For example, barbecue, pasta, burgers, etc. This option also allows you to include various side dishes to complement whichever option you choose for the main.
  • Desserts galore: A traditional wedding cake is still viable, but would you rather save more money by providing cheaper dessert options? Cookies, cupcakes, bars, pies, and even fancy donuts will certainly wow the guests after a nice meal.
4.) Capturing your big moment: High-quality photography and videography do not come cheap by any means. That said, you and your partner can save money by opting to hire an “up and coming” photographer or videographer who still has “lower” fees compared to more established artists.

[Final thoughts]
Your wedding day doesn't have to be a financial burden. There are ways to make it affordable without compromising on style and grace. Follow these suggestions to start saving.
